Cats In The Cradle -
Harry Chapin 1981 (The cycle of Growth - Your Kids
are gonna grow-up just like you, Dad)
There are Four Verses to
this song, expressing Children Growing Up from Baby to
Adulthood =>1+23+4
Relationships create
Responsibilities,
and the
Chief
Responsibility is
T I M E !!
T I M E - use it or lose
it.
(Verse 1) -
Baby is Born
( 0-5 Years Old)
My child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way.
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay,
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talkin fore I knew it, and as he grew,
He'd say I'm gonna be like you, yeh,
I know I'm gonna be like you.
(Verse 2) -
Pre-Teenager
( 6-12 Years Old)
Well my son turned 10 just the other day,
He said Thanks for the ball Dad, come lets play.
Can ya teach me to throw? I said
Not today, I got a lot to do. He said That's ok.
And then, he walked away but a smile never came,
He said I'm gonna be like him, yeh,
Ya know I'm gonna be like him.
(Verse 3) -
Teenager
( 13-19 Years Old)
Well he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say
Son I'm proud of you, can ya sit for a while?
He shook his head, and he said with a smile
What Id really like Dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See ya later, can I have them please?
(Verse 4) -
Adulthood - Marriage
Well I've long since retired, my sons moved away,
I called him up just the other day.
I said Id like to see you, if you dont mind.
He said Id love to Dad, if I can find the time.
You see my new jobs a hassle and the kids have the
flu,
But its sure nice talking to you Dad,
Its been sure nice talking to you.
And as he hung up the phone it occurred to me, He'd grown up just like, my boy, was just like
me.
