Myrrh is an aromatic plant that is mainly grown in the areas native to Somalia, Arabia and Yemen. Well, it is a small size plant that can grow near about 16 feet high. The tree boasts of its gorgeous small white flowers. It doesn't have much of leaves. When the bark of the tree is cut down, a pale yellow liquid comes out from the gum resin. When this liquid dries, it transforms into reddish-brown lumps, from which the oil is extracted through steam distillation. The yield is usually about 3 - 5 %.

History:	It was extensively brought to use by the ancient Chinese (called mo yao in China) and Egyptians. The Egyptians used it as a part of sun worshipping custom and for preserving mummies as well. The oil has also made its way in the making of cosmetics. While, the Greek soldiers used it to heal the wounds.
Suggested Use:	Athlete's foot, bronchitis, chapped skin, gums, hemorrhoids, itching, mouth, ringworm, toothache.
Medicinal Benefits	Myrrh is antiseptic and has been used to fight gum disease and yeast infections for a long time. The essential oil seems to improve the immune system and help defend against other illness causing microbes. Myrrh essential oil seems to be antiseptic, but also acts as a preservative and astringent helping to prevent wound infections when used to rinse cuts and scrapes.
Cautions:	High dosage of Myrrh oil can be toxic for health. Therefore, pregnant women should refrain from its use.
Other information : Myrrh (Commipihora myrrha) has a rich, smoky, balsamic aroma that is purifying, restorative, revitalizing, and uplifting. It is a helpful aid to meditation, having one of the highest levels of sesquiterpenes available. Sesquiterpenes are a class of compounds that have a direct effect on the hypothalamus, pituitary, and amygdala, the seat of our emotions. Myrrh is closely related to frankincense. They both come from African and Middle Eastern balsams. To produce the oil, resin is first harvested from the trees. Essential oil is then distilled from the resin.
