PM gave everyone a scare this evening, when he felt unsteady during his National Day Rally speech and had to take a break. He had been standing for a long time, and was dehydrated. But he eventually came back to a standing ovation, looking good, and ended his speech on an uplifting note on our future as Singaporeans. He’s got real mental strength.
The doctors’ immediate assessment is that he is alright, but PM has gone for a full check-up, just to be sure.

I have followed every one of PM Lee’s NDRs closely. Like all of you, I have never felt such a surge of joy as when PM came back on stage tonight after he took ill. He looked very well, full of colour and spirit, just like his usual self. I hope his full check-up after the NDR will find that everything is okay, and I hope PM will take some rest. He has been checking up on me in the last few weeks, advising me to take care after my stroke. My sincerest hope is that he will also be kind to himself when it comes to his health.... |

"true leadership by example". After he encouraged Singaporeans to refuse to give up and keep on trying at National Day Rally, PM had a brief fainting spell. Not serious, similar to what soldiers get from standing on the parade square too long. After he recovered, PM insisted on finishing his speech and did it with panache and vigour. True leadership by example. Still, I’m glad that PM will go through a full medical check to be doubly sure. |
